Do You Want To See My Room?: Luther Kroman

November 21, 2014 - December 20, 2014

PLUG Projects is pleased to announce Do You Want To See My Room? a solo exhibition of Luther Kroman’s work.

Much of Kroman’s work has to do with missed opportunities, the idea of intimacy and varying degrees of failure. Do You Want To See My Room? consists of several pieces from two separate bodies of work that Kroman has been producing tangentially. The photographs in the exhibition are screenshots of empty bedrooms left behind when camgirls are out of frame. Camgirls, internet models that use a webcam to build and communicate with their audience, are often times portrayed as the girl next door. Posing nude to tease their fans but it usually does not make the leap to anything very hard-core. Kroman states, “This body of work has been focused on intimacy or rather a lack of intimacy. These rooms act as a sort of lonely landscape. By removing the sexual object, that being the girl, the room is left to speak for itself, which often times, creates a new kind of awkward sexual tension.”

The works on canvas in this exhibition, The Tan Line Paintings, are part of an ongoing group of works where Kroman uses minimalist painting tropes to carry narrative elements. These paintings, which are created by applying spray tanner to canvas, all resemble the tan lines found on the body. The narratives are of moments in time or post-action situations, still falling within the greater ideas of failure.
